Abstract

Market waste management is a major challenge that affects environmental hygiene and public health. This study aims to analyze the
effectiveness of waste management in Bawah Market of Bukittinggi City, which is dominated by organic waste. The method used was direct observation and interviews with traders, janitors, and market managers. The results show that waste management is not optimal, with the lack of facilities for sorting organic and inorganic waste and the limited number of temporary disposal sites (TPS). In addition, waste is often left at the market site, causing unpleasant odors and the risk of environmental pollution. This study suggests the need for integrated management, including the provision of adequate infrastructure, public education, and an efficient waste processing system to maintain a clean and healthy market environment
