Abstract

Immunizations mandatory for infants include Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus (DPT), which can induce fever.

Fever management can be pharmacological or non-pharmacological. This study aims to determine whether

Red Onion Essential Oil can reduce body temperature in infants post DPT immunization in the working area

of Tigo Baleh Health Center, Bukittinggi City, in 2024. This research is a Quasi-Experiment with a Non

Equivalent Control Group Design. The study was conducted from February to April 2024, involving a

population of 1,664 infants with 30 intervention groups, 30 positive control groups, and 30 negative control

groups. Data collection used observation sheets. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses

using one-way ANOVA. he results showed that the mean and standard deviation of body temperature in the

group of babies with shallot essential oil was 36.73+0.179. The mean and standard deviation in the positive

control group was 36.52+0.131. The mean and standard deviation in the negative control group was

36.92+0.158. There was a significant difference in body temperature during post-immunization fever before

and after treatment in the intervention group, the positive kentrel group and the negative control group with

p=0.000. In conclusion, there is a significant difference between the administration of Red Onion Essential

Oil and both positive and negative control groups regarding infant body temperature post DPT immunization

in the working area of Tigo Baleh Health Center, Bukittinggi City, 2024. Therefore, it is recommended that

non-pharmacological therapies be considered for managing infant body temperature
