Abstract

Sexual violence against adolescent girls is a public health problem that has serious impacts on the physical and psychological condition of victims. Data shows a high rate of sexual violence against adolescents, with peer influence and parental role as potential factors influencing the incident. This study aims to determine the relationship between peer influence and parental role with incidents of sexual violence against adolescent girls in Bukittinggi City in 2023. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach and was conducted in July-August 2023. The population was 3,747 junior high and high school students, with a sample of 360 respondents selected using a cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-square test. The majority of respondents (85.3%) reported having experienced sexual violence, especially verbal violence. There was a significant relationship between peer influence (p=0.007) and parental role (p=0.032) with incidents of sexual violence. A negative social environment and lack of communication within the family increase the risk of incidents. Peer influence and parental role are significantly associated with incidents of sexual violence against adolescent girls. There is a need for increased reproductive health education, open family communication, and optimization of school- and family-based prevention programs to minimize the risk of sexual violence
