Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that can reduce patients' quality of life due to various physical and psychological complaints. One of the factors that may influence the quality of life of hypertensive patients is their level of knowledge regarding pain management. Adequate knowledge can help patients manage symptoms effectively and improve their overall quality of life.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between pain management knowledge and quality of life among patients with hypertension in the working area of Tigo Baleh Public Health Center, Bukittinggi.

Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in 2024 in the working area of Tigo Baleh Public Health Center, Bukittinggi. A total of 30 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a pain management knowledge questionnaire and a quality-of-life questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The Chi-square test was applied to determine the relationship between variables with a significance level of 95% (? = 0.05).

Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between pain management knowledge and the quality of life of patients with hypertension (p = 0.001). The Odds Ratio (OR) value of 2.316 indicated that respondents with good pain management knowledge were 2.316 times more likely to have a better quality of life compared to those with poor knowledge.

Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between pain management knowledge and the quality of life of patients with hypertension. Strengthening health education programs related to pain management is recommended to improve the quality of life among hypertensive patients.
