HUBUNGAN DUKUNGAN KELUARGA DENGAN KEPATUHAN MINUM OBAT KLIEN SKIZOFRENIA DI YAYASAN PELITA JIWA INSANI

Abstract

Family support greatly influences medication adherence among clients with schizophrenia at the Pelita Jiwa Insani Foundation. West Sumatra Province ranks as the fourth-highest province in Indonesia with a prevalence of 10,816 people experiencing mental disorders. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and medication adherence among clients with schizophrenia at the Pelita Jiwa Insani Foundation. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted at the Pelita Jiwa Insani Foundation from October 9 to November 7, 2025. The study population consisted of 124 clients with schizophrenia, and total sampling was used. Data were collected through observation and interviews. Data analysis employed univariate and bivariate analyses using the chi-square test. The results showed that most clients (75.2%) received high family support, and most (70.8%) adhered to their medication. There was a significant relationship between family support and medication adherence among clients with schizophrenia at the Pelita Jiwa Insani Foundation, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the research hypothesis was accepted. 
The findings of this study are expected to encourage the Foundation to maintain and enhance family education efforts to strengthen family support, thereby motivating clients to independently adhere to their medication. Additionally, the study serves as input and information in the field of nursing and as a reference for future research.
