Solid medical waste is a major challenge in environmental management, especially in the health
sector, which can have adverse effects on human health and the environment if not managed
properly. This study aims to analyze the trend of solid medical waste generation in Hospital X
Padang City during the period 2019-2023, considering the relationship between the number of
patients and the type of service as influencing factors. This study uses a quantitative descriptive
method with Pearson correlation analysis and linear regression to evaluate the relationship
between these variables. Primary data were obtained through direct observation and interviews,
while secondary data were hospital records. Results showed that the volume of medical waste
increased significantly after the pandemic, as the number of patients and medical services
increased, from 7,267 kg in 2020 to 20,475 kg in 2023, with a strong correlation between the
number of patients (r = 0.987) and type of service (r = 0.611) to the volume of waste. In conclusion,
solid medical waste management should be improved with an integrated approach and
environmentally friendly technology to support sustainability and the achievement of SDGs goals in
health and environment
