Abstract

Gastritis is a global health issue, with approximately 1.8 to 2.1 million cases recorded in Indonesia
according to WHO 2019. Similarly, in the working area of Guguk Panjang Community Health Center,
Bukittinggi, there were 850 cases of gastritis in 2024, marking the highest incidence in Bukittinggi.
A common issue among gastritis patients is disease recurrence often triggered by respondents' lack
of discipline in self-management practices. This study aims to depict self-management among
gastritis patients in the working area of Guguk Panjang Community Health Center, Bukittinggi. The
research design is quantitative descriptive, encompassing the entire population of 850 gastritis
patients. Sampling was conducted using accidental sampling techniques, resulting in a sample size
of 48 respondents. Data collection employed a questionnaire instrument, with computerized
univariate analysis conducted for data analysis. Findings revealed that 68.8% of respondents had
moderate dietary self-management, 66.7% were non-smokers or had quit smoking, 85.4% were using
NSAIDs, and 83.3% exhibited high stress management. It is concluded that self-management issues
among gastritis patients in the working area of Guguk Panjang Community Health Center primarily
revolve around NSAID use and dietary patterns. It is recommended for healthcare professionals to
enhance education efforts regarding the consequences of NSAID use for gastritis patients and the
importance of dietary discipline to prevent recurrence and complications of gastritis.
