Medical errors and patient dissatisfaction with services result from inadequate therapeutic

communication. Description of the implementation of communication: 74% of nurses do not carry out

therapeutic communication with patients. Therefore, researchers want to describe the therapeutic

communication competence of nurses. This research method is descriptive study, where this research was

carried out at RST Bukittinggi in an internal inpatient room with a sample size of 16 nurses. The results

of this research show that the description of therapeutic communication skills is based on four indicators,

namely giving a clear message 87.5% in the medium category, listening 93.8% in the medium category,

providing responses 93.8% in the medium category and emotional handling 100% in the medium

category. The conclusion of this research is a description of nurses' therapeutic communication in the

medium category. So it is hoped that hospitals will continue to upgrade their knowledge about

therapeutic communication and supervision from superiors for this communication component which can

ultimately increase patient satisfaction
