Abstract

Bakground: Postoperative pain is one of the symptoms commonly experienced by patients after undergoing surgery, as the body's response to tissue damage that occurs during surgery. This study aims to analyze the effect of guided imagery therapy on pain levels in postoperative cholelithiasis patients at Dr. Achmad Mocthar Hospital Bukittinggi in 2023. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. It was implemented in December 2022, involving 30 respondents who received guided imagery therapy. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Data were collected computerized using the Wilcoxon Sign Test. The level of pain was measured based on the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI), with a score scale of 6-30: 6-10 (increased), 11-15 (quite increased), 16-20 (moderate), 21-25 (quite decreased), and 26-30 (decreased). Results: The results of the univariate analysis showed that the average pain level before therapy was 23.3 (quite decreased), while after therapy it increased to 28.067 (decreased) with a p value of 0.000. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that guided imagery therapy has an effect on reducing the pain level of patients after cholelithiasis surgery. The researcher recommends that further research involve the patient's family in the therapy process to support its implementation and effectiveness.
