Abstract

Obesity in pregnant women is a significant risk factor for pregnancy complications, particularly in the third trimester, such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, prolonged labor, and perinatal complications. One preventive effort that can be implemented is appropriate nutritional management tailored to the needs of obese pregnant women. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and understanding of obese pregnant women in their third trimester regarding nutritional management as an effort to prevent pregnancy-related risks. The activity was conducted in the working area of Rasimah Ahmad Primary Health Center, Bukittinggi City, in 2025, targeting obese pregnant women in their third trimester. The method used was health education through home visits, including the provision of educational materials on balanced nutritional needs, dietary regulation, healthy food choices, and monitoring of weight gain during pregnancy. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding of the importance of nutritional management during pregnancy and increased awareness to adopt healthier eating patterns. This community service activity is expected to contribute to reducing pregnancy complications among obese pregnant women and to support the improvement of promotive and preventive midwifery services in the community.
